WEC team members have been enjoying our ongoing engagement with the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we were eager to support GCCA in several special endeavors.
To spread awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month, we placed a sign and signature blue pinwheels outside our office. WEC team members also took pinwheels home to their own communities to spread awareness of this cause throughout the metro Atlanta area.
Throughout the month, WEC team members brought in items for the GCCA food drive. We also collected new and gently-used books for the Center, which gives away free books to the children who receive their services.
These efforts were spearheaded by structural designer Kailee Garrett, who serves as our community service coordinator.
The other cause at the top of our minds this spring has been education. WEC was proud to sponsor Project Funway, a unique fundraiser for the Education Foundation of Eagle County.
Participants in Project Funway are challenged to design and create unique fashions using atypical materials: no fabric is allowed. Most of the participants are kids, who spend months assembling their show-stopping outfits.
The fashion show raises money for Eagle County Schools, supporting teacher retention efforts, classroom grants, and teacher scholarships.
Senior engineer Lelia Conlin’s daughter was among this year’s participants. She and her peers demonstrated ingenuity, dedication and resourcefulness – we hope to see some of them among the next generation of architects and engineers.
